HOUSE BURNED AT KAUKAPAKAPA.
A fire occurred about half-past seven o'clock on Monday evening, the "20th instant, hv which the dweP.inghouse of Mr. Thomas Skinner, near the Peak, v.'as totally destroyed, with all it contained. The dwelling was a tolerably substantial paling whare, comfortably lined inside with calico. It is supposed that a spark must have lodged in this calico, and before Mr. Skinner noticed, the whole tiling was in a blaze. Mr. Drinnan and his streman noticed the glare from their store. They immediately got horses and rode in the direction, but found, after riding about a mile, that they U'T:.- too late to be of any service, as the s '.'eue of the tire was about five miles from Kfiukapakapa. Mr. tekinrier has lost everything, including a quantity of large gum which he had stored under bed. An unfortunate dog that ha, tied to be inside, and had taken refuge behind this gum, perished in spite of every effort to save it. Had the fire occured at a later hour, the consequence* mighthave been much more serious.
