ECCLESIASTICAL.
In response to a circular issued by the Band of Hope Union authorities, temperance sermons were preached in a number of the churches yesterday, both in the city and suburbs. The discourses wore principally intended for the young. The Rev. Thomas S. Forsaith, of whom a biographical sketch was published in Saturday i? Herald, officiated in the Beresford-street Congregational Church yesterday morning, and in St Andrew's Presbyterian Church in tho evening. Of the latter church he had been an elder and superintendent of the Sunday-school in 1848. On each occasion he preached a powerful, eloquent, and impressive sermon. His text at St. Andrew's was Luke xvii., •20 and 21 : "And when He was demanded of the Pharisees when the kingdom of God should come, He answered them and said the kingdom of God cometh not with observation : neither shall they say Lo here ! or Lo there! for, behold the kingdom of God is within you." There was a good congregation. Tho Rev. Joseph Berry, who has been laid aside with influenza, and unable to fulfil his ministerial engagements for the last week or so, is we are glad to learn, recovering from his indisposition.
