Mr. Lambe drew the attention of the meeting to the dangerous state of the Great South Road opposite Mr. Watson's gate, and the chairman promised that the attention of the Hast Tamaki Road Board should be drawn to the matter. An important matter of whether it was advisable for the Board to take over a new road at present only used by Mr. Wool field, next came up for discussion. The Chairman stated that Mr Woolficld had applied to have the road gravelled as far as his resilience, and that a protest against this had been signed by many ratepayers, in consequence of which the Board had deemed it advisable to submit the matter to the ratepayers at their annual meeting. It was finally resolved, "That it be a recommenda tioti to the new Board to take over the said road subject to its being formed, gravelled, and kept in repair for one year by Mr. Woolfield." The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chairman, Mr. Bailey. The following gentlemen have been returned unopposed as members of the Road Board : — Messrs. W. McLaughlin, R. Carruth, J. Wyllie, G. .Scott, and C. Bailey.—[Own CorI respondent.] PUKEATUA.
The first meeting of the newly-elected Road Board took place in the Dairy Flat schoolroom on the 14th instant. There were present : Messrs. Charles Jeffs, George Green, James Inglis, and E. A. Frost. Mr. J. Inglis was chosen chairman of the new Board, Mr. -Jell's treasurer and secretary, Mr. Green clerk of the Board, Messrs. Inglis, Jeffs, and Green to sign cheques. A letter was read from Mr. Lennon, who is a member of the Board but was not present, asking that certain works on the Kahakitea road be carried out, and as there were other applications as urgent and as necessary to be done, and as the funds available for the purpose are so small, in tact smaller than for many years past, it was decided to hold over all applications for works till funds were increased. It was resolved that the Board employ a solicitor, if necessarv, to defend their interests, believing that the Waitemata County Council are acting in every way except in an honest and legitimate way to compass the merging of the Road Board. Considering the state of the funds, it was decided to hold the next meeting of the Board on the first Saturday in Augu 1. Messrs. Inglis and Green retire by rotation at the end of the year. This was al. 1 the business.—[Own Correspondent.]
