Press Association. Telegraph.—Copyright CHARGES AGAINST A RAILWAY COMMISSIONER. Sydney, May 14. In answer to a question put by the Commission which is inquiring into the charges against Mr. Eddy, Chief Railway Commissioner of New South Wales, Mr. Sehey, M.L.A., said a ring was responsible for the appointment of Mr. Eddy, who, according to this witness, had insured engines and given orders to certain firms instead of calling for tenders. The ring was composed of Sir H. Parkes, Sir Saul Samuel, Sir John Fowler, Messrs. Whitton, Burnett, Thow, Beyer, and Peacock. London, May 13. Sir Saul Samuel, the Agent-General for New South Wales, has been interviewed regarding .Mr. ScheyV. charges against Chief Railway Commissioner Eddy. He stated that the charge that the latter had ordered half-a million pounds' worth of engines from an English ring was grossly calumnious, and a tissue of lies, and would be easily refuted. ARREST OF A MELBOURNE S HARE BROKER. Melbourne, May 14. Clarke, a well-known ssharebroker, has been arrested on a charge of conspiracy with Taylor (who is at present I undergoing a term of imprisonment) to defraud the Land and Credit Bank of £37,000.
