COLOURED LABOUR IN QUEENSLAND.
Press Association.—Electric Telegraph.— Copyright" London, May 13. In the House of Commons, Baron De Worms announced that he had received a cable from Sir S. Griffith stating that the Queensland Government fully recognise the necessity of stringent rules in connection with the employment of Kanaka labour, and they are determined to prevent infringement of the law. The Imperial Government entertain no doubt as to the efficiency of the safeguards proposed by the Queensland Government. London, May 14. Baron de Worms, in the House of Commons to-day, read Sir Samuel Griffith's telegram re Kanaka labour, and added that the Imperial Government had no doubt that the new safeguards against the repetition of abuses in connection with coloured labour would be efficient. Brisbane, May 15. Mr. Play ford, Premier of South Australia, who is on a visit here, in the course of an interview, stated that a hundred Indian families would be immediately settled in the Northern Ter ritory as a primary venture. He asserted that Kanakas in Queensland would be virtually slaves.
