London, May 13. General Booth will probably limit the first batch of emigrants to 500. He
asserts that the condition of the Army finances will not delay the prosecution of the scheme#
London, May 14. General Booth intends asking the Government of New Zealand to pay the cost of convening the submerged tenth to that colony.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Ellington, Saturday. I learn that the Ministers have received no communication from General Booth as to colonising part of the land offered to him by the Government, consequently the news cabled on this subject is not likely to be correct. No agreement was come to as to where the land was to be. The offer was made by the Premier, upon conditions —(1) The land was to be selected upon special settlement conditions: ('2) the first settlers to be members of the Salvation Army organised in this colony ; (3) no members of the criminal class would be accepted ; (4) land was to be selected subject to approval. The General would hardly have had time to have made oven the preliminary arrangements under these conditions. However, nothing is known of any of the " submerged tenth" coming from London to New Zealand. The Premier has cabled Mr. Perceval for further information. It is possible the draft mentioned in the cable is intended for land privately offered.
