[FROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENTS. .1 Tk Alton a, Friday. Mrs. George Holokn" who had been in failing health for some time past, died on Tuesday last, aged Si years, and was buried on Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. llolden and their family arrived in the colony about 13 years ago, and since then have lived near Te Aroha, on the west side ot the Wailiou river. In May last, Mr. and Mrs. olden entertained a large number of their friends on the occasion of the ost.h anniversary of their wedding day. Mrs. llolden was then able to take an active interest in the proceedings, but gradually her health failed, and .shepassed away at the before - named ripe *ge. Mr. llolden is a brother of Mr. Isaac Holden, M.P. for Keighley, in Yorkshire, and ho is perhaps the oldest member of the House of Commons, and reported to be worth several millions. Mr. and Mrs. Holden have three sons and a daughter in the colony. One of their sons is Mr. Andrew llolden, so well known in Auckland as the manager of the Auckland branch of Messrs. Stewart Dawson and Co.'m business. A large number of friends, together with the relatives of the deceased, followed the body to its last resting place. The service was conducted by the Rev. T. Norrie, Presbyterian minister, who also gave an appropriate address. Mr. David Wat lace, the Waiorongotnais smith, and inventor ot a patent fencing wirestrainer, is moving his machinery and plant toTe Aroha, where he will in future carry on business, He will take over the business of Mr. C.tTinell, who has been here for some years, but is about to leave tor Waihi. General regret has been felt here on receipt of the news of the serious illness at the Thames of Mrs. Charles Ahier. Mrs. Aiiier went to the Thames some months ago to consult Dr. Williams, and has since been under his cure, but appears to have become gradually weaker. She is very highly respected bv all who know her, both here and at the Thames, and she lias every sympathy from them all in her trying illness. [BY TUMiOKAI'H.—OWN COKRKSfO.N J Cambridge, Friday. Beard, Hyatt, Neal, and the Rev W Wis spoke in favour vegetarianism,' and there was very little opposition put forth to their views, in fact the audience did not appear to treat the matter seriously, but evidently went to be amused.
