THAMES NEWS.

[BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Friday. An inquiry into the circumstances attending the destruction of Mr. Clark's outhouse, at Kauaeranga, by fire on Monday last, is to take place on Monday next. Superintendent Hughes, of the Auckland Fire Brigade, is at present on a visit here, and to-night was entertained at a social by the local Fire Brigade in the Grahamstown shed.

A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of J. 0. Ralph took place here today. The debtor stated that the total amount of his debts was £2103, whilst his assets amounted to £1055, which left a deficiency of £1048. He attributed his failure mainly to difficulties encountered whilst endeavouring to establish a flaxmill at the Piako, the market l'orfl ix failing just about the time when he was ready to make a start, and having never since recovered. A resolution was passed appointing Messrs. Styak and Reed supervisors, under clause 66 of the Bankruptcy Act, to superintend the administration of the estate, and it was also decided to allow the bankrupt his furniture, and to recommend the Official Assignee to facilitate his discharge, as it was considered his bankruptcy was caused owing to unfortunate circumstances.

At a meeting of wages men who are creditors in Crawford's Special Gold Mining Company, now in liquidation, the following resolution was unanimously carried : —"That Mr. Purchas, solicitor, be instructed to write to the liquidators of the Crawford's Special claim demanding information concerning the floatation of the proposed new company, and if the original agreement has been complied with, namely, that £1900 will bo in hand to work the company after paying all debts and demands, as it was on these terms we were induced to take any shares in lieu of money, and that if the reply is not satisfactory other steps will be taken to recover the wages." Extreme dissatisfaction was expressed at the unwarrantable delay in floating the new company, as it was considered that unnecessary time is being lost.
