THE CANTERBURY AGRICULTURISTS AND LORD ONSLOW.

[BV TELKQRAPa.— PRISS3 ASSOCIATION.] Christchuroh, Friday. The 29th annua' meeting of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held to night. The annual report showed that the Association was in a good position. Mr. Henry Overton was elected president, and Mr. David Craig was re-elected treasurer for the ensuing year. Dr. Frankish gave an interesting resume of his experiences during his recent visit home, crediting Nelson Brothers with doing their utmost in England to maintain the position and secure good sales for New Zealand mutton. A motion to name the new show grounds the Or.slow Park was rejected, Mr. John Grigg strongly resenting the proposal on tho ground that His Excellency had displayed political leaning towards the present Government's taxation measures when being entertained by the citizens of Christchurch before leaving, therefore the Association should not pay him such a compliment. Sir John Hall regretted Lord Onslow's remarks, but wished it to bo noted that during His Excellency's term of office he had been scrupulously attentive to the farming interests, and had kept aloof from politics, pointing out thao his last act with respect to the nominations for the Upper House counter-balanced this.
