OTAHUHU FRUITGROWERS ASSOCIATION.

Ihk monthly meeting was held in the Ota- I huhu Masonic Hall on Wednesday evening, Mr. W. E. Lippiatt in the chair. There was a good attendance of members. The question I of pilfering, and damage done to fruit in transit from one New Zealand port to another, was discussed. On the motion of Mr. Sturges, it was resolved that the VVhangarei arid other Associations be requested to unite and do their utmost to have the present bills of lading amended by the insertion of a clause making shipping companies liable for damage and pilfering while the fruit is in their charge. A very interesting pamphlet " Notes on the Codlin Moth," by Mr. Dickson, Woodstock; Mr. Browne, Clevedon ; Mr. Beloe, Pukekohe; Mr. Lippiatt, Otahuhu; and Mr. Urquhart, Drury; was read at the meetiug. This pamphlet is published under the auspices of the Canterbury Fruitgrowers' Association, and printed at the Lyttelton Times Office. A copy of this pamphlet should be in the hands of every orchardist, is it contains most valuable information. The "Notes" first appeared in the New Zealand Country Journal, July, 1891. The secretary was requested to write to the New York Pomological Society and ask for a copy of an act on insect pests passed in 1881; and obtain nil information possible from Tasmania and elsewhere, and then to convene a conference uf fruitgrowers, so that concerted action may l*> taken to rid the orchards of this injurious Insect.

The meeting endorsed the views expressed by Mr. Ilanlon in a recent letter to the Herald and Weekly News as to the suicidal action of fruitgrowers in shipping inferior to England. It is a fact that some of the apples shipped by the Tainui were of a very inferior quality. Correspondent.] ______________
