HEN-DEES' V. HELENSVILLE. Oil Saturday *st these clubs met at the latter place to t} conclusions. The weather was extremely ivourable to an enjoyable game— trifle bo hot, if anything. The visitors ariivecby the 9.40 a.m. train, and shortly after t< o'clock the home team was sent into theield, Beale and Robinson having charge'' the trundling. The bowline; was not condcive to run-getting, and no batsman reacsd double figures. Barclay played good ticket, and was beginning to look dangeroii when a fast one from Beale carried away b leg stump. M. Laurie and Rowlands scad 7 and G respectively, a fine hit for 3 beingnade by each batsman ; but Robinson's "lilers " and Beale's "yorkers" prevented bigcoring, and the innings closed for 35, of Mich number 12 were extras. Robinson an< Brown were the first pair of batsmen to apear at the crease for Helensville, and stuewalling became the rule, only 7 runs being iored off the first 15 overs from Barclay andW. Laurie, the latter bowler then makiugoom for his brother Mat, who, in his thirdover, bowled Brown and got Beale lbw. Vaymouth made a fine leg-hit for 4 and cut for before being bowled. Robinson was pining most patiently, but could not get anyoe lor a permanent partner, dissolution follwing dissolution ten times, when, with te score at 55, he was obliged to leave the wket, having carried his bat right through the inings for '28, got by good cricket and withoutgiving a chance; a very good performance ".specially as the bowling and fielding were good, and the wicket somewhat treacheous. M. Laurie bowled best, getting 5 wiclets for 17 runs. Shortly after I p.m., with •fwicketsfor 43, a short adjournment was mule for luncheon, kindly provided and {resided over by some of the Helensvillu adies, who as usual were un- ! remitting in their trouble and attention to the want* of all. Upon going in a second time the .Tenderson team started most disastrously losing Hougham and Cornier before a run vas scored. Vercoe, however, hit freely, and scored 9 before Robinson beat him vitli a "yorker." Barclay was again uuforiunate, being run out when playing well. M. and J. Laurie stayed at the wickets some time, but only got 4 and 5 respectively, the innings closing for 33. Dr. Gault, Waymouth, and Beale each made a good catch, anil the latter bowled very well, securing 8 wickets for 8 runs. With about 15 lr.inutes remaining for play, and 14 runs required in ordn* to claim a win by wickets. Dr. Gault at onjeset in Beale and Robinson, who just managed to obtain the said number of runs within :he allotted time, Helensville thus winning by 10 wickets, after a most friendly and enjoyable game. The timehonoured custom of three cheers was carried out with gusto, and the visitors then left for home by the four p.m. train. Appended are the full scores, etc :—
