VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
SEW ZEALAND RIFLE association MEET I NO. At the Drill-shed last night the names of eighteen competitors were received, in connection with the shooting contests at the New Zealand Rifle Association's meeting, to be held at Wellington on the 11th of March. The names were as follow : — Messrs. J. Parslow, 1). Hay, Rifle Club ; Volunteer \V. Leigh, Victoria Rifles ; Sergeant 11. Doughty, Gunner H. Head, Gunner G. A. Henderson, "A" Battery; Mr. .J. Nutt, Rifle Club; Guiltier C. P. Taylor, "A" Battery ; Volunteer W. H. Shepherd, City Guards; Petty Officer G. Spinley, Petty Officer John Spinley, i'onsonby Navals ; Captain Tobin, Royal Irish ; Lieutenant VV. G. Smith, Lieutenant C. Little, Auckland Navals ; Gunner McCallum, " A " Battery ; Volunteer J. L. Leigh, Victoria Rifles, Corporal Dormer, City Guards.
About five entries from the Thames have to be added to these, and a number of post entries will also doubtless be sent in. Altogether, it is expected that .']() competitors will go down from Auckland. A few of the men intend leaving on Thursday next, but the majority will leave by the Takapuna on the following Monday. In connection with tho New Zealand Rifle Association meeting, the following letter has been received by Captain Kohn from A. C. Whitney, manager of the Colonial Ammunition Company :—" Will you kindly inform me if tho Auckland representatives will take six cases of Snider ammunition to Wellington for us. Tho ammunition has been presented by us to be used when competing for our prize at the next meeting of the New Zealand Rifle Association, and we trust that some of your representatives will show out well in the scores. The ammunition would have to be delivered into the hands of the secretary of the New Zealand Rifle Association. The prize referred to is £'•£">, to which £'20 has been added by the Association. The presentation was accepted with thanks. EASTER ENCAMPMENT. A meeting of officers was held in the officers' room at the Drill-shed, last night to take into consideration the desirability of making preparations for an Easter encampment this year. Colonel Goring presided. A considerable amount of discussion took placo, but nothing definite was decided upon.
