Tho Union Co.'s s.s. 'i'e Kapo, Captain Allman, arrived from Southern ports shortly after noon yesterday. She left Dunedin at <> p.m. on the '24th ult., reaching Lyttelton at 9.30 a.m. on the 2oth ; left again at 7 p.m. the same day, called at Wellington on the 26th, Napier cn the '27th, Gisbome on the 28th, leaving the latter port at 10.30 a.m. the same day, and arrived as above. Experienced fine weather throughout. The i'e Kapo proceeds to Sydney this evening. The schooner Louie arrived from Lyttelton ear ly yesterday morning, bringing a cargo of wheat for the Northern Roller Mills. Captain 801 l reports leaving .Lyttelton on the 21st ult., and experienced light variable winds throughout the passage. The schooner was berthed at No. '2 Jetty, and commenced discharging at once. The American barquentine Elinor Vernon was berthed at No. '2 jetty yesterday, and will commence discharging cargo this morning. The Northern Co.'s steamers Clansman, for Russell and the North, Argyle, for Mercury Bay, and Douglus, for YVhangarei, all left last evening. Messrs. Cruickshank and Co. have received cable advice from Messrs. Shaw-Savill and Albion Co. that the s.s. Mamari left London for Auckland, via Tenerifle, on the 16th ult. She mil be due here on or about 11th April. The brigantine Dcfiance came down from the Sugar Works yesterday morning, and berthed at the Hobson-street Wharf, where she will undergo a thorough overhaul. The cutter Gipsy will sail for Whakatano. sailing at by-ports, on or about the 2nd instant.

The schooner Adelaide, Captain Dunn, sailed from the Thames on Saturday for Sydney with 185,000 feet of kahikatea timber, shipped at 13aj;nall Bros', mill. The s.s. Ardle sailed from Newcastle for this port on Saturday. The Union Co.'s new steamer Upolu, for the Tonga and Samoa trade, to take the place of the Wainni, arrived at Dunedin from Glasgow yesterday morning. A description of the vessel has already appeared in our columns. The s.s. Wellington takes up her running to Whangarei again, leaving this evening. The lona will take up her usual trips to Mercury Bay, and the Argyle the Thames trips. H.M.s. Ringarooma, from Russell, was signalled at sundown last evening, but remained outside, probably to engage in gun practice early this morning. THE BARQUE ALICE. Early yesterday morning tho American barque Alice, Captain Joseph Swain, arrived from New York, via Wellington, after a passage of six days from the latter port, bringing a quantity of cargo, the principal item being 5000 cases of kerosene. Ihe voyage from New York to Wellington was accomplished in the smart time of 98 days. After discharge of Wellington consignments the barque left for Auckland on Tuesday last, and experienced light S.W. winds for two days; then strong northern were met with, lastiug until Sunday, when the vessel was off the East Cape, where tho wind came in from the S.E., and carried the vessel up to Rangitoto Channel, where she anchored till late on Sunday night. She was brought into harbour by the tug Eagle, and berthed at the Queen-street Wharf. She will commence discharging to-day. ' MARINE CASUALTIES. A boat containing a number of sailors belonging to the English warship Bell Isle capsized in the Lilly, at Dublin, February 3, and four sailors were drowned. The British steamship Victoria, from Philadelphia, January l'Jth, for Hamburg, reported at London February 3rd, that she had on board the crew of the Norwegian barque Florida, reported abandoned at sea. The French steamer St. Andre arrived at Antwerp, February 4, from Havre, She had collided with and sunk the Danish brig Shot otr Fecamp. All the crew of the latter, with the exception of a boy, were drowned. Steamship La Normandie, which sailed from Havre on the afternoon of January I 23, for New York, collided with and sunk the tug which had been towing her. Five persons were drowned and one seriously injured. Steamship Golden Horn, from Antwerp, for New Orleans, was reported. January 23, wrecked on the Windward Islands, east of Porto Rico. Despatch from Tunis to London, January 23, says the French steamer I'atrie is supposed to have been lost, with all on board, during a hurricane in the Mediterranean. Steamship Moltke was sunk ou the morning of January 21st, by colliding with the Italian steamship Carlo Pietro, at Greenwich. The MoltKe sank, all the crew escaping save one. The Carlo Pietro's pilot said the Moltke's riding-light, was not burning, as it should have been, during the thick fog prevailing at the time.
