A cricket match between the Hikurangi and Hukerenui South Clubs was played on the 30th of January on Mr. Davey's grounds, which is tile practice ground of the latter club. Counter attractions elsewhere marred the match somewhat, neither club showing their strength, Hikurangi only bringing eight men ; two men were impressed on tiie ground, winch gave them ten,so that each team played one man short. Those of Hukerenui Club, from whom great things were expected, fell all to pieces in the second innings, the Hikurangi team being the victors. Davey, going in last, saw two balls go to his partner, when he was caught at mid wicket; and in the second innings Sixth saw the remaining four put out without having a ball delivered to him. The day was beautiful, though the glare of the sun was rather against catches, two or three chances being lost from that cause. The lidding of both teams was fair. A bountiful supply of refreshments was provided for the visitors, and everyone seemed to have had a good dav.
