WELLINGTON NEWS NOTES.
[nr I'll.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.J Wellington, Thursday. CABINET. It was expcctcd that the Cabinet would sit to-day to consider the Legislative Council nominations, but the Hon. Mr. Ward is attending upon the Governor, and has not yet arrived. THE NORTHERN RAILWAY LEAOUK. The question of the Central Railway still gives much sore trouble to Wellington folks. This evening it is stated that the telegram sent by Mr. Cadinan to the League, and published in Friday's Herald is incomplete. It is alleged that Mr. Cadman's opinion is adverse to the Stratford line as desired by its chief advocates, and that the clause to this effect had been improperly de leted from the telegram as printed. I have heard the statement from a good source. If not true it ought to be denied, for capital is being made of it. FAREWELL COMPLIMENTS TO LORD ONSLOW. Great preparations are being made for the public dinner to bo given to-morrow in Bellamy's by the Mayor of Wellington to Lord Onslow. I understand that the presence of ladies will bo a conspicuous feature of the company. The Hon. C. .Johnson gives a dinner in honour of His Excellency on Saturday evening at the Wellington Club. On Monday Dr. Newman, M.H.R., will entertain His Excellency and the Countess of Onslow at a party. Lord and Lady Onslow announce that they will receive Wellington citizens who may wish to bid them "good bye" at Government House on Monday evening next. NEWSPAPERS IN THE SYNOD. The Primate pulled up their reverences of the Synod yesterday for reading newspapers during the proceedings. He considered such a practice disrespectful to the member of the Synod who was speaking to the chair, which was responsible for good order, and to the importance of the subject under discussion. St. mary's parish, tarnell. At the General Synod to-day Bishop Cowie brought up the report of the Trusts Committee upon the memorial to remit certain payments to be made by St. Mary's Parish. The Committee recommended as I follows "That £250 of the amount to be I paid by St. Mary's Parish to the General Church Fund be remitted on conditions.' The report also recommended that the J necessary action be taken to obtain amend- ! merits in the Charitable and Education Trusts Acts so a? to enable tho trustees to lease lands for mining purposes.
