RIFLE ASSOCIATION MEETING.
[BY TKfjKOKAI'H. — fit ESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Thursday. Several volunteer officers, including Capfc. Collins, (.'apt. Patterson, and Lieutenant Kirk, consulted with the Mayor, to-day, as to the beat means of securing the interest of the citizens in tho forthcoming meeting of the New Zealand Rifle Association. It was pointed out that the Association had fixed upon Trentham (Upper Hutt) as a site for a permanent range, and had let contracts for putting tho range .in order, amounting to £1(50. Up to the present only about £110 had been collected, leaving £50 to meet the expenditure of the range. It was further desired to collect, if possible, another £100 as prize-money for the Wellington match, seeing that this was the inauguration of tho new range. The Mayor undertook to ask the City Council to allow the use of the Chamber in which to hold a public meeting for the purpose of considering what steps should be takon to inaugurate the first meeting, and also said that he would send personal invitations to influential citizens to attend the meeting.
