She will probably continue her loading for about a week, when she will go South to pick up her consignments of frozen meat for London. The s.s. Richmond was busily landing her cargo of fruit, cotton, etc., at the Railway Wharf yesterday. At noon the Union S.S. Co.'s Te Anau, Captain C. W. Todd, took her departure for the South ana Melbourne with a good number of passengers and a general freight. The Cargo steamer Star of England is due here from the South on the 17th inst. Last evening the Union S.S. Co.'s steamer Pukaki, Captain Ewan, reached port with a freighting of general cargo from Bluff, Dunedin, Oatnaiu, and other ports. The purser, Mr. Sadler, reports that she left the Bluff at 7.30 p.m. 011 the Ist inst., and called at Dunedin, Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Napier, and Gisborne. She left the latter port at 10.40 a.m. on the 11th, and rounded the East Cape at 7 p.m. the same evening, and passed Cuvier Island at 12.30 p.m. 011 Wednesday, and arrived as above, having experienced moderate variable winds and fine weather up the coast. The local consignments of the barque land's cargo from Glasgow were brought up from the South by the s.s. Pukaki yesterday. The s.s. Pukaki is to leave for Westport direct to-morrow. Last evening the Northern S.S. C'o.'snew steamer Waiotahi, after being cleaned in dock, left for Opotiki with freight and passengera. The schooner Waireka, Captain Curran, lias been fixed to load timber at Whangarei or Wellington. On the 18th ultimo the schooner Jessie Niccol left Rarotonga with 3opra, cotton, etc.. for this port. The British ship Afghanistan, which cleared from Astoria for Dunkirk about December 16th, had the most valuable wheat cargo ever cleared from that port. She had 76,834 centals, valued at 135,500 dollars. A NEW P. AND O. BOAT. Ip The Malacca, a new P. and O. steamer, was recently launched from the Naval Construction Company's yard. Tho vessel was named by Mrs. Angus, the captain's wife. Amongst those present at the launch were Mr. Alexander Adamson (managing director), Mr. A. B. Gowen (manager), and Mr. A. Buchanan (assistant manager). The launch was in every way successful. She is built of Siemens's mild steel to approved model and plans prepared by the Naval Construction Company aud special survey at Lloyd's, and in accordance with the three-decked rules for 100 A 1 class. The dimensions are 385 feet by 45 feet by 312 feet; gross tonnage a bout 4250, net register about 2650; cargo capacity about 265,000 cubic feet.
