Mr. Jellicoe appeared to prosecute on behalf of Mrs. Crawford. Mr. Skerretb, for the accused, objected on tho ground that the former had no locus stanii, as Detective Campbell is the informant. Ultimately tho case was put back until two o'clock to enable the inspector to consult the Crown law officers. When the Court resumed at half-past two p.m., Mr. Gully, Crown Prosecutor, said tho Crown had decided to drop the charge of murder afja'msb Raines, as it was considered there was not a pritna facie case on the capital charge. The Bench assented to this course, and the accused was re-placed in the dock to answer a fresh information of manslaughter. The evidence tendered was substantially the same as that given before the coroner's jury.
