DR. LAISHLEY ON MASONRY.
TO THE EDITOR. ! • / Sir,— effusion of R. Laishley, which appears in your issue of this morning, purporting to be a reply to " A French Mason," is a peurile and lame specimen of special pleadingfull of virtuperative abuse, and uq reply to the letter referred to. The writer poses as an exponent and representative ol • Christianity and Masonry, but judging from his verbose and egotistical communication he appears to have hazy ideas of the one, and seems somewhat obtuse in respect to the other. _ In point of fact, his opprobioua tirade is an examplification of the " mountain being in labour and bringing forth a mouse.'' As I understand it, both Christianity and Freemasonry are based on the broad foundation of " charity to all mankind,'' and the unwarranted attack by R. Laishley (who affects to be a Christian and a Mason) on the Hon. John'Ballance is, to say the least, uncharitable, for we are told that " Charity suffereth long and is kind, charity envieth not, charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoieeth in the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth." There is nothing in R. Laishley's letter worthy of a reply, therefore I will not attempt to follow his laboured effort ; but inasmuch as he has quoted from the Old Book, I shall also cite from the same sublime j authority, " Judge not that ye be not judged." —I am, etc., Another French Mason.
