THE HESSIAN FLY.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Masterton, January 14. The Wairarapa Daily, which recently forwarded a specimen of the grub which is causing damage to the crops of wheat in this district for examination, received the following telegram from Sir James Hector yesterday: —"Grub you now send with wheat is the larva condition of the Hessian fly (Cicidomyia destructor). It is the same pest which appeared near Marton in January, 1888, and was successfully suppressed. It is much to be regretted that it has reappeared, as it is a frightful pest. I have referred tho matter to the Minister of Agriculture."
