The fine ship Columba completed her loading for London at the Queen-street Wharf yesterday, on behalf of the New Zealand Shipping Company: This Liverpool clipper is considerably over the tonnage of the sailing vessels that generally load nere for home, and she has under her hatches one of the largest and most valuable cargo that have - Hone out from our port in a sailing bottom lor several years. The Nova Scotian barque Lizzy Curry, which came here with coal from Newcastle, Eresumably to load flax, etc., for New York, as been, as before stated, diverted from this port. She was yesterday entered out at the Customs for Wellington, and will there load for the big American port. She was towed up to the Sugar Works yesterday to take down about 100 tons of sugar as coastal cargo. i Yesterday the brigantine Aratapu, Captain W. Cranch, was cleared at the Customs for Sydney. Her loading is as usual to be timber, and she goes hence to the Kaipara to pick it up at the Kauri Timber Company's mills. As soon as the barque Flora has completed her loading in dock she will have quick despatch for New York, as a large portion of her cargo is already engaged, and has been accumulating during her detention. Owners, as well as shipmasters, will be interested in the figures lately, made public by the Marine Board of South Australia respecting Port Pirie and Port Augusta. The figures given bv the Board indicate a large increase in the tonnage of vessels visiting Port Pirie. During the past year the average size of each ship, exclusive of coasters, was about 1000 tons, as compared with 806 tons for the preceding year. The total shipping inwards and outwards wa3 2G5 vessels, of 265,245 tons. Eighty were steamships, and 185 were sailing vessels. Good work has been done in deepening wharf frontages by their owners, and opposite the Government wharf a swinging berth with a radius of 400 feet, and a channel depth of 12 feet 6 inches, has been completed. To judge by reports received last year these improvements were sadly needed. Cable advices received by the Union S.S. Co. announce that the mail steamer Monotvai left San Francisco oil January 12, five days late. During yesterday forenoon the s.s. Wairarapa was busily engaged in shipping general cargo. At midday she left for the South with a good number of passengers, including several for the Sounds excursion per the s.s. Tarawera. The barque Devon port has left port for Hokianga, and the Northern Chief for Whangaroa, both to load timber. At the Queen-street Wharf the cargo steamer Otarama was taking in some wool, etc., for London. She will begin to ship • her consignment; of 2500 carcases of frozen meat to-day. '• She will then proceed to Southern ports to complete, Napier being her first port of call. . < , The barque Lottie Moore lias begun to load flax at the Queen-street, Wharf for New York under charter to the New Zealand Shipping Co. , ..
