STORMS IN THE SOUTH.

[by telegraph.— ASSOCIATION.] Nelson, Tuesday. A HEAVY storm was experienced here last night, and a resident of the Waimea describes it as the heaviest thunderstorm ever experienced in the district, the lightning at times being very vivid, while rain descended in torrents. The Wai-iti and its tributaries rose rapidly, and was soon in high flood. A great deal of damage was done to roads and standing crops. The approach to Wai-iti bridge, near Foxhili, was partly washed away, and traffic is stopped. A number of small bridges and culverts have been destroyed. Tile Midland Railway works at Belgrove suffered greatly by the flood. Crops of grain and hop gardens have been much injured.
