SUDDEN DEATH OF CAPTAIN JOHN EDWARDS.

Seortly before ten o'clock yesterday morning Captain John Edwards, coal merchant, dropp?! deal in the Waitamata Hotel, under-c'rcv... dances of a most painfully sudden nature. The two accordingly adjourned to the Waiteuiafca Hotel to obtain the necessary writing materials. Mr. Edwards had scarcely taken the pen in his hand when, to the alarm of his companion, he fell unconscious on the lloor. Assistance was immediately summoned, and medical aid sent for, but when Dr. Knier arrived within a short time after the occurrence, he could do no more thtn pronounce life to be extinct. The body was subsequently removed to the residence 0' deceased and his family, in Ponsonby. Mr. Edwards was well known and highly respected, and Ins death is a very seviit> bow to his family, and he will be greatly missed by a large circle of friends, He leaves a wife and eight of a family, all of whom are grown up. He was about sixty years of age, and has been a resident of Auckland for some thirty years, during which time he has hud charge of several vessels engaged in the coastal trade. There will be no necessity for an inquest, inasmuch as deceased has been attended to by Dr. Knight, who examined him 'about a fortnight ago, and is prepared to certify that death resulted from the failure of the heart's action. The funeral will leave his late residence, LondonStreet, Ponsonby, to-morrow afternoon, at three o'clock, for the Symonds-streec cemetery*.
