POLLOK.
Mrs. DrcK, postmistress - here, sent me ; a samplo of leeks grown in her garden. I must say that they .are the finest leeks 1 ever saw.: She attributes their greatness to the good quality of the seed got from a well-known: seedsman in Queen-street, Auckland. Itaped round the largest; it measured 14£ inches circumference, and blanched up about one foot. . ' . We havo had a case of vitriol throwing in this settlement, or some other similar corrosive acid, the victim being a poor dumb animal, a valuable cow, belonging to Mr. Peter Mclnnis, storekeeper hero. She was milked on Tuesday morning, the 29th ult., and had strayed away, but was found later in the day horribly burned on tho rump, and seemingly in great pain. The person who would be guilty of such an atrocious act is not fit to live In a civilised community, but rather to be at hard work within tho walls of some prison, within the range of a six-' chambered revolver.— Correspondent, October 3.] ■' ___
