At the Police Court yesterday morning, one of the men charged with drunkenness, Robert Leary, was a very old offender. j: Sir William Fox, who with Mr. E. F. Tizard occupied the Bench, said there wero thirteen convictions against Leary for larceny, and forty-eight for drunkenness.; 'He had spent 19 years in gaol altogether, chiefly : for drunkenness, and it was ? therefore of little use to try and do anything with him. It seemed hard, Sir William - said; that the ratepayers of New Zealand should have had to pay for the support of such a man for so many years. 1 Cadkury's Cocoa."
