The weekly returns of the Bank of England published to-day show the reserve to be £1G,758,000, being an increase of £526,000 as compared with the previous week. _ The proportion of the reserve to liabilities is 45.88. Consols are 94, t. Three months bills are discounted at per cent. ' ... . . New Zealand 4 per cent inscribed stock is 10 JA; Si per cents ditto, 93J. New Zealand longberried wheat is firm at 4-ls. For cargoes on passage sellers ask 435, but buyers only offer 42s 6d. -;■_ Canterbury frozen mutton, 4Jd per lb; lamb, 6d : beef, hindquarters, 4Jd. Now Zealand hemp is dull, and has declined 10s per ton. Fair quality is quoted at £20. South Australian wheat is firm at 4os. Victorian is also firm at 44s fid. Sugar: German beet, 13a 7id ; Java, quiet at J ss. Chilian copper is £52 10s per ton. Straits tin is £91 10s. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron, 'f.0.b., in the Clyde is 47s Gil. Silver is 3s 9£d. The wool market is quiet. American buyers have taken barely 2000 bales.

Per Hew Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. London, September 25. Tallow : There is a less demand for fine mutton tallow, but there is an improved enquiry for other descriptions. Pine mutton anil good beef tallow, are worth respectively 27s 3d and 2Gs per cwt. ■ Frozen meat: Mutton market firmer, and the price has advanced id per lb since last Beef market dull. New_ Zealand beef, hindquarters, is worth 4d per lb other quotations unchanged. New Zealand hemp ; Market depressed, medium is worth £20 10s per ton. .
