[FROM OUR OWN' CO US PON DENTS. Hamilton, Saturday. Till! paragraph concerning the claim of the gravel contractor for £9, made to the Borough Council on Tuesday last, for 150 yards of gravel, which he alleged should be paid to him,' though placed on the street by the borough workmen, 011 the plea that though other persons supplied it, he, as contractor, had a right to charge for it, would read as though Air. Parr had supported the payment of the claim. This he dul not do, but simply argued in favour of the principle, that it was an act of injustice to, the gravel contractor for the borough' to call on him to: supply gravel obtainable only from a distance away from a work, lyfid, where suitable material was close at hand, to supply it themselves. Air. W. J. Hunter, who held his horse fair, here on Thursday, reports that there was a large muster of horses, chieliy of a class not suitable for ploughing and ordinary farm work. There was a good attendance and spirited bidding to the end of the sale, which having been commenced punctually at noon was finished by five o'clock, enabling those who attended to get away in good time, and not lose' a second' day, thereby giving great satisfaction. All parts of Waikato were well represented, also Auckland, Te Aroha, Morrinsville, and Raglan, showing the advantage of a central position for holding these sales. Some nice medium draught colts realised £13 each, and a Muskapeer colt rising three years old was secured by an Auckland buyer for 15 guineas. Plough horses reached £17, and a good number were cleared at these prices, -nearly the whole of the horses being sold. Mr. E. 0. Wallis, of Kaglau is, it is satisfactory to learn, recovering from the serious accident which befel him a few evenings ago while unloading ilax from his boat, when he fell off the wharf, striking his head against the gunwale of the boat and severely bruising his leg and side. On recovering, he was quite unconscious of.the accident, but is now about again. " 'Cambridge, Saturday.
