EXTRAORDINARY STABBING CASE.
Miss Annie Cakew, daughter of a wellknown saddler in Melbourne, was passing along Victoria-street recently, in company 'with two sisters and Mr. Saw, when a man without warning rushed at her and stabbed her in the back. Mr. Saw grappled with the fellow, and the police quicky arriving, the ruffian was secured, after a _ hard struggle. He gave the name of William Jones, a labourer, and had evidently been drinking heavily. Miss Carew was taken to the hospital, where it was found that the knifo had penetrated under tho shoulder blade to a depth of an inch.
