FIRE IN PALMERSTON NORTH.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —Pit ESS ASSOCIATION.] Palmkbstok North, Saturday. By a fire this morning the following places were burnt :—Pegden's shop and dwelling, Ireland and Co.'s grocery shop and washhouse, George's drapery shop and dwelling, Hodgson's tinsmith's shop and dwelling. Wilson's Occidental Hotel. ' Besides these, Crump's lawyer's ' ollice and Moreland's furniture shop were badly burnt. The occupants of the buildings escaped in their night dresses. The insurances so far as known are:—Pegden's: £.'l3O on stock and furniture in tho Rational, £600 on the building in the New Zealand ; the estimated loss is £2000. Ireland and Co.'s shop : £500 on stock and £400 on building in the Union, £250 on the stock in the Royal, £500 on the stock in tho Imperial, £800 on the stock in tho Phoenix; loss, £000. George's shop and dwelling £400 in tho Union, £400 in the New Zealand ; the loss is £600. Hodgson's shop and dwelling : £225 in the National; stock uninsured. Occidental: £500 in the Phoenix, £500 in the Imperial, £250 in the Victoria ; loss £600. The total is estimated at £12,000.
