Roman Catholics of Canada desire a Papal Nuncio should be appointed for the colony. During an affray ab Heligoland between natives and German soldiers eight Were wounded. The Government of the Dominion has refused the admission of American cattle into Canada for the purposes of slaughter. The Chinese Commissioner reports that the Chinese are anxious to eradicate leprosy, and have killed several lepers in Columbia. > ' . The Queen has conferred the Albert medal, second class, on Mr. Cooper, fourth officer of the steamer Massillia, for saving the life of a Lascar in the open sea. Messrs. Alexander and Co., iron merchants, have failed. The gross liabilities are sot down ab a million and threequarters, but the deficiency is only estimated ab £44,000. ; Premier Abbott, of Canada, promises to introduce legislation making it a criminal offence for any person to attempt to influence the Government in granting coni tracts or making appointments.
