GUTTING UP THE KAINGAROA PLAINS.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Rotorua, Friday. It is understood that the Government have given instructions to cut up the Kaingaroa Plains, containing about a quarter of a million acres, into seven blocks of about 30,000 each, at a rental of £1 per thousand. A feeling is gaining ground amongst some of the inhabitants hero, who mean to represent the matter to tho Minister of Lands, that twenty blocks of 10,000 acres each would bo more suitable, and generally in accordance with the declared policy of the Government. It seems strange, however, that when-a syndicate is found willing to take up the Kaingaroa Plains there is a general outcry of " Land for the People," by those who might have secured it years ago if they were anxious to do so.
