GROWN LANDS BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the. Board was held yesterday, and was attended by the Chief Commissioner (Mr. G. Mueller), and Messrs. Gill, Moat, and Bagnall.

. Land _ Alienated. —The Chief Commissioner laid upon the table a statement showing that the following lands had been disposed of since the Board's last meeting Cash selections, 280 acres ; deposits, £7G lis Oil, Deferred payment sections, 391 acres; half-yearly rents, £13, 7 Oil. Perpetual lease sections, '2974 acres; half-yearly rents, £32 lis 3d. Total area, 3651 acres; total payments, £122 IDs Gd. Tadi'lßL—The Surveyor-General having intimated that there was no objection to the Land Board dealing with Lot '471, parish of Taupiri (Waikato County), it was resolved to submit the section for sale by auction at an upset price of £1 per acre. Timber Floating License. — The Sur-veyor-General wrote asking that, in conscqucnee of complaints as to loss by timber floating operations, caution should be used in future for issuing licenses for the Paparoa River. It was resolved to inform the Government that no licenses for floating timber in the Paparoa River had been issued or applied for, arid that every possible precaution, in connection with granting licenses had always been taken by the Board. Sureties submitted by Mr. John Straka for a timber - floating license for the Pnhoi river, the required bond being for £500, were approved, and the license ordered to be issued.

Extension op Time.—J. T. Young was granted an extension of time in which to effect improvements oil lot IKS, Parish of Whanganunjino (WaikatoCounty), lie having been working on adjoining land under amisapprehension. Man'iatutu Village.™ A plan for the re-classitication of the sections in Mai'iatutu Village (Turanga County) as rural lands was approved of, Section 28, Block 8, being set apart as a school site reserve. Cambridge.—' Town Clerk of Cambridge wrote asking that section 580 and .">94, Cambridge East, should be vested in the Borough Council, the first for the purpose of improving lie junction of Thornton Road and Albert-street, and the latter for a gravel nit. It was decided to recommend the Government to vest the sections in the Council as requested, and to inform the Council that the Board had no objection to the proposed road alteration. ■ Cemetery Reserve.—On the recommendation of Mr. Evil. Hardy, it was resolved to reserve the north-eastern portion of section 80, parish of \Vhakahara,.tor cemetery purposes.

11AOARej» — W. Thomas wrote objecting to the terms upon which the Board had resolved to lease lot 119, Whangarci Parish. He considered seven years too short a term and £2 per annum too high a price, offering to take it for 14 years at £1 ss. The Board decided to adhere to the terms previously agreed upon. Education Reserves. —It was resolved to recommend the Government to reserve the south-eastern portion of section 17 (40 acres) and the north-western portion of section 10 (158 acres), Matakohe (Otaniatea County) for educational purposes. Perpetual Lease Forfeited.— perpetual lease of sections 15 and 18, Block 11., Puma district (Whangarei County) was declared forfeited, and the land was declared re-open for selection. Land Order Grants.—The Chief Commissioner said that a large number of sections in the district had been taken up more than 20 years ago on land orders, and in connection with many of them none of the conditions had oxer been fulfilled. Those that had not been claimed had become the source of a great deal of unnecessary trouble, as when anyone of them was applied for by an intending settler the formalities of resuming possession, etc., had to be gone through. He therefore proposed to go right through the whole land district, and sweep them clean away. At each meeting of the Board, until all these sections were disposed of, he would submit a schedule of a number of them, and if the Board approved the schedule would be published, with the notification that unless the section were claimed within thirty-one days, the Crown would resume possession. The Commissioner's proposal was unanimously approved of by the Board, and a list was ordered to be published of the sections to be so dealt with in the parishes ot Alangonui, Matawherohia, Kaeo, 1 Awanui. Manga tete, Ivaiaka, Waitara.ii, Maunsrutaniwha, Maungatauiwha East, Oruru, and Kohuinarn. Permission to Sell Timber.— L. Mclnnes, contractor for the Telegraph Department', was granted permission to take or buy totara timber, at Is Gd per 100 feet, in various parts of the Puhipuhi and Otonga districts.

Timber License Fees. — The Commissioner submitted a proposed scale of charges for timber licenses, but consideration thereof was postponed till next meeting. Rangers' Reports.—On the reports of the Crown Land Rangers' homestead selection at, Awakanae, being section 8, block 10, Coromandel district, was declared forfeited, owing to non-fulfilment of residental conditions, and transfers ofipections in the Maketu, Waoku, and Awakino and Mangakahia districts, were sanctioned. Maketu Cemetery Site.—On the recommendation of Mr. Baber, surveyor, an application for the removal of the cemetery site in block S, Maketu district, was granted. Flan Areas.—lt was decided to submit the right to cut flax on a number of areas in the Whangamarino Parish for sale by public auction. Puhipuhi Metal Reserve.—On the recommendation of Mr. D. C. Wilson, surveyor, an area of about eighteen acres in the Puhipuhi mining district was set apart as a metal reserve. Applications for Land.—A number of applications for land were granted, while others were dealt with according to their special circumstances.
