DISCOVERY OF A GOLD WATER GEYSER.

Another attraction has just been discovered at Rotorua, and one which will make a fitting contrast, to our thermal wonders, namely, a cold water geyser or fountain spring, throwing a column of clear water with considerable force to a height of about 2£ feet from a hole about a foot in diameter. This strange phenomenon is situated on what is known as the Wnipa flat, on the left of the VVaiotapu Road, after passing the Heinn Gorge, some four miles from Rotorua, and just over the hill from Whakarewarewa. Although it appears to be known to the Tuhourangi natives, who give it the name of Rotopupu, still, for some reason or other, possibly the unsettled title to the land, they never made its existence known to anyone outside their own circle. A youn<r man named A. Downey, who happened to be out hare hunting in the neighbourhood, is supposed to have been the first European who has seen it. On Aug. 31 a party of five, under A. Downey's guidance, visited the spot, and are loud in their praises of this new discovery, which will still further multiply the sights of ' the district. ...
