Owing to the advance of the season there is a slight increase in the number of visitors to the City Freshwater Baths, Albert-street, and there are now over 100 a week. The baths are in splendid order, the custodian, Mr. Calder, having filled in his leisure time during the winter in revarnishing the baths, the varnish used being from the Avondale Varnish Works, which shows a bright and clean facing. The columns and spandrils of the roof have also been repainted by him and picked out in tasteful colours, the bath hand-ropes recanvassed, and the buoys repainted. Everything, in fact, is in excellei ■) order, and reflects the highest credit upon Mr. Calder. Professor Panned may be expected back in Auckland at the beginning of November, to resume his swimming classes, and the incoming season at the Baths premises to be very successful. A prescababion was made on Tuesday evening, at St. Alban's Church, of a handsome table, inlaid with fancy woods, to Mr. Bruce, the organist). The presentation was made by the Rev. Mr. Sprobt.
