CHARGE AGAINST A BANK CLERK. Melbourne, September 1. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Bell, a clerk in the British and Australian Land Banking Company (now in liquidation) on a charge of mutilating the books, presumably to prevent detection by destroying records and entries. THE COUNTESS"OF JERSEY. Sydney, September 1. Lady Jersey, accompanied by Captain Leigh, visits New Zealand at the end of December or early in January. THE GAMBIER DISASTER. . Melbourne, September I. Two steerage passengers, named Miller and Quinn, who were reported drowned in the Gambier, travelled by another steamer. This reduces the list of casualties to 21. A passenger by the Gambier controverts the statement that the Easby's people were slow in coming to the rescue. He alleges that the lashings of the Gambier's boats rendered it impossible to lower them in less than ten minutes. CHARGE AGAINST CAPTAIN LOGAN. Melbourne, September 1. The Marine Board have decided to charge Captain Logan, of the Manapouri, with misconduct in connection with the recent mishap to his vessel.
