EIGHT HOURS DEMONSTRATION.
fBY TEIiKORAI'II. — E'RF.SS ASSOCIATION'.] Wellington, Tuesday. A DEPUTATION representing the Eight Hours' Demonstration waited on the Government this evening urging that the 28th October should be declared a public holiday, as was the ease last year on the occasion of the labour demonstration. The deputation pointed out that it had been ascertained that the day named would bo suitable for Auckland and Dunedin, but no reply had been received from Chrisfcchurch. The Hon. Mr. Reeves in reply said he could not definitely promise to grant the request, but he had little doubt that it' would be granted, on the understanding that next year the whole question would be taken into consideration, whether tho day was suitable to employers as well as employees.
