THE POLITICAL CRISIS.

M TO THE EDITOR, , X Sib,—Where is our Political Reform ft League, that made some noise during the lost election? I have been looking out to KJ learn what they have to say re the proceed- c:\. ings in Parliament. We have had volumes of.talk about retrenchment, and some old servants have been dismissed just as they expected to rest on their oars, and spend tha remainder of life comfortably. But why this retrenchment? That they may raise their honorarium and increase the number of members I Barefaced robbery I Bobbing V Peter to pay Paul! Now, it does seem to me that the electors should strongly censure these proceedings. . Mark these men; put a cross against those who vote in favour ;of • such dishonesty, but encourage those who are loyal to their trust. Are we so thoroughly cowed that we have no spirit left in us to demand faithfulness from those to whom w® have given the power to make or mar our country? or are we going to look on these V doings and give no sign of disapproval? I do hope some of our able men will take the matter up, and that members will !be made :f to feel they are not sent to Parliament to enrich themselves.l am, etc., . A.B.C. ' ' ' - i'rA "■ ■■ • TO THE EDITOR. • . * Sib,—ln a recent issue . Mr. ; Ewington v makes a suggestion that iB ; well worth the earnest attention of all owners of property in town or in country—namely, to form an'association for the protection of property. If some such society is not formed forthwith. ! there will very soon be no property-holders to protect. Heretofore such a society was not called for, because the men engaged in law-making had someproperty of their own.! Now it is otherwise. The present law-maker may rate property to his heart's content, knowing that he himself is exempt. If this : ' union or association is not seen to forthwith • ' owners of property in town and country will very 6oon find that they have no property to , protect. If the country is to be saved from utter ruin it must be by those who represent * justice,' economy, and retrenchment, not by . the parasite, .who is only anxious to add to , his own "screw" from a starving country.— am, etc., J. MoElwain.
