ROMANTIC LAWSUIT IN AMERICA.
A man named Eugene Dunnivant, who had just been released from the Joliet Penitentiary, has begun a suit against Mr. Potter, president of the Illinois Steel i ompany, Chicago, claiming £'20,000 as compensation for alleged wrongful imprisonnii'iit. He stated tliat four years ago ho was an itinerant vendor of newspapers, nnd plied his trade in the neighbourhood of Mr. Potter's mansion. That gentleman's daughter was inspired with » romantic attachment to the poor newsvendor— a sentiment which was very far from being encouraged by the young lady's parents. Dunnivant appears, however, on his own showing, to have returned Miss Potter's affection, and to have boon determined upon winning her for his wife. This is the prologue of his tale of woe. The serious portion of his story begins with the allegation that Mr. I'otter, in order to get rid of him, enters into a conspiracy with the captain of police and others to have a newsboy convictod of burglary. As a matter of face such a charge was duly preferred against him. It is alleged that Mr. Potter actually supplied a lawyer with funds to conduct Dunnivnnb's defence, but that the conspirators were too strong, and tho plot succeeded, the love-struck nowsboy being sent to prison for four years. He declares that his health and prospects in lifo have thereby been shattered, and claims compensation accordingly. (
