THE RECENT LABOUR CONFERENCE.
[by TBLKORAPH.— PBKSS association.] Wellington, Friday. At the recent labour Conference a federating scheme applicable to the Trade and Labour Council? of New Zealand was drafted. The object is to form a deliberative and representative body possessed of special knowledge of mutters coming under their cognisance, which by the aggregation of power can enforce the carrying out of legitimate necessary reforms. An insurance scheme was suggested on the following basis :—Suppose that 4000 unionists agree to subscribe to the proposed insurance fund tho'Bum of £100, less 2$ per cent, for workin? expenses, could be paid at death to the widow or next of kin by paying one levy of 6d per member for each caso of death. Other suggestions offered by the Conference were an accident scheme, a building scheme, and a co-operative store scheme. These matters have been under the consideration of'the local Trades Council, but no decision has been come to. An exhaustive report of the Wellington delegates to the Labour Conference was received at the Trade Council and adopted.
