THE WAIKATO HOSPITAL BOARD.

[by TELEGRAM—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ' Hamilton, Wednesday. At the monthly meeting of . the Waikato Hospital Board to-day there were present Messrs. Primrose (chairman), Seddon; Teasdale, McGuirk, McPherson, Coates, and; Heany. An application was made by Mr. ] Sage to have one half the amount he owed' to the Board reduced, and the balance paid by instalments. On a vote being taken,| Messrs. Seddon, Heany,'McGuirk, and Teas-, dale voted for, and Captain ' McPherson, Coates, and the chairman against. An application was made for relief by the police on behalf of Annie Frazer, a girl 21 years of age, lately living with a Mrs. O'Neill on the east side" of the river, and who was turned out of her house by Mrs. O'Neill. Relief to the extent of 12s per week was grsyited,' instructions < to be given to the police to prosecute young .O'Neill, on behalf of the girl. The wife of Mr. Magner wrote stating her inability 1 to' pay hospital fees. Captain McPherson ' thought that ' every : case should be brought into the Resident Magistrate's Court, ana the parties applying for a remission of fees be made to prove their position, of which this Board had no evidence. , Mr. ; Teasdale moved," That the power of granting orders for admission to the hospital: be extended to members of contributing bodies." ' Mr. McGuirk seconded the motion. He said that if it was known that an order of admission could 'be obtained from members of the contributing bodies, people would 1 feel that they could escape the cost of a private examination • from. the doctor. Mr. Seddon moved," " That the matter be deferred for consideration at next meeting." Captain McPherson seconded the amendment. He said it was all the more necessary, as charges had . been incidentally raised against the doctor which it was only fair he should have an. opportunity to explain. The amendment was put and carried. A girl named Sarah Mitchell, aged 18, who was turned suddenly out of "her father's house at Cambridge, applied for relief. It was agreed to give her temporary relief, and sue the father for the cost. The: secretary reported that the expenditure for the month of May amounted to £182 8s Bd, of which salaries and wages came to £53 10s; outdoor relief, £15 los; the ordinary expenses being £60 18s. It was left to Mr. Toasdale to ascertain from the police the nature of the case; and if a proper one to admit the applicant at once. An offer by an Auckland firm to supply an ice macniue at £30, was received. Mr. Heaney asked whether an offer to supply ice had not been made by Mr. Home, of Hamilton. It was resolved to defer the matter till next meeting, that Mr. Home might be communicated with as to what arrangement could be made for an ice supply. " A list of patients, debtors to the hospital,-was laid on the table for consideration at the next meetihg. The gross amount tots up to £900. The secretary was instructed to at once supply members of the Board with lists of. oersons in tlieir respective districts, so that they might hiake inquiries into their pecuniary positions, and report to next meeting.
