CHARITABLE AID
IMPORTANT DECISION.

Chiusxchuhoh, Weday. A decision of very great importance to hospital and charitable aid Boards was given to-day by Justice ' Denniston, whon no allowed the appeal of the Wuitaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board: against the decision of the resident, magistrate at Timaru in an action brought against that body by the South Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to recover cost of relief to a man and his family who had come to Timaru from Oatnaru on October 26, 1889, and received relief on April 11, 1390, less than six months after leaving Waitaki Board's District. His Honor held that clause 74 of the " Hospital and Charitable Institutions Act," on the interpretation of which the case turned, meant that one- district; can recover •' from another the cost tl' relief to po,jons entering,it from tho latter, provided that such persons resided in the latter for six months continuously immediately before entering the institution from which they had i received > relief. ; The Resident Magistrate held that costs could be recovered if such persons had lived ,in tho i*'strict from which, they came for six months next previous to entering the institution which relieved them in the district in which it is situated. .. . ? .
