THE IONIC OVERDUE.
(.BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Tuesdaj\ The lonic is nine days overdue on the passage to this port, bub very little anxiety is felt for her safety, as it occasionally happens that the arrival of the steamers at Bio is not cabled. It is also thought the vessel may hnve experienced heavy adverso gales off Falkland Islands, and been delayed in consequence. .Levin and Co., the looal agents of Shaw, Savill, and Co., cabled to the London office u few days ago, asking for tidings of tho steamer,"bub, receiving no roply, cabled again yesterday afternoon. ChbistchurCH, Tuesday. Mr. Cunningham, representing Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company, received a cable dated London, June 1, in connection, with that company's business. He feels quite certain that had the lonic been overdue at Rio Messrs. Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company would have mentioned tho fact. It not unfrcquenbly happens thab a steamer's arrival at Rio is nob recorded. The Tainui, for instance, on her last voyage to London was nob reported from Rio.
