NATIVE LAND LAWS.
. TO THE EDITOR. _ Sir,— necessity of: a village settlement fart landless natives, as proposed by the .Native Minister, shows the inefficiency of the \ ; system of •' land reserves, and how much-more effective a monetary reserve would have been. The sooner the system is changed the better i for the country, .; for thai monetary reserve would provide the village settlements without cost to the Government, whilst its accompaniment, l freedom of sale, would probably lead to considerable : areas of land nowlying idle being purchased by Europeans and made use of, arid so contribute to the welfare ■ of the colony. Let us have a clear and cer« tain law, and not one filtered; through Coin, niissions, and so let the'mystery envelop- . ing native land dealings be swept away, with .» the whole army of mystery-men; and the f expense purchasers will be saved will .givi them a* start on the land.—l am, etc., E. F. Tizard..-
