Hasler said .that he had been robbed, and mentioned something, about the potman./ The deceased said he did not want anything to do with it, and walked towards the door. 'Hasler immediately followed, and just as the door closed witness heard a report of firearms outside. Witness went out and saw the deceased standing up with his hat in his hand, making towards ' Hasler. When the deceased w.'is within a yard and-a-half of Hasler, he led a' second shot, which struck the defeased in the breast. : A man then caught ihe deceased by the. arm, and Police-con-stable : 448 G appeared, and at once confronted Hasler who pointed the revolver at the constable. He was secured and taken into custody, and the deceased was conveyed to the hospital. '; '■■■ George Tuckh'eld, manager of the Green Gate; stated that about) 0.30 Hosier called

for a glass of ale, and would nob pay for it. Hosier said to the deceased, " It is your turn to pay for drinks." As the money was not forthcoming, witness took the ale away. Deceased, and Hosier went out, and ■ immediately afterwards witness heard the report of a pistol, and soon afterwards a second re-' port..Hasler did not appear the worse for drink.
