ROAD BOARD MEETINGS.

EDEN TERRACE. *•' : . 'The annual meeting of ratepayers in connection with the Eden Terrace Road Board was held yesterday evening. Mr. Adam Porter presided, and there were about a dozen householders present. The balancesheet for the year, which was read and adopted, showed that the receipts for the year amounted to £636 6s 6d, whilst the expenditure had only amounted to £467 Is Id, leaving a- credit balance of £169 5s fid on the general account. The principal items of expenditure were : — Administration, £88 17s lOd ; Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, £42 5s 7d; public works, £337 17s Bd. The assets of the Board were estimated at £1024 15s 6|d, and the liabilities at £7*2 9s 3d. The Chairman- said that the district was in as flourishing a condition as any in the province or in the . colony. Jso works of formation had been undertaken during the year, but an attempt had been -made to put all the paths in good repair, and they had tarred some three miles of footpaths in the district. The health of the district had been good, and only two cases of fever had occurred during the year. Some of the /ratepayers present drew the attention of the chairman to the fact that serious was frequently done to the footpaths from cattle and houses trespassing on them. The chairman said that he would take what steps he could to prevent this nuisance, and the meeting terminated.

ARCIIIIILL. The annual meeting of the Archliill Road. Board was held in the Newton West schoolroom last night. Mr. «T. T. B. Dines presided. - There were about twenty gentlemen present. The treasurer, Captain Armstrong, read the annual statement of accounts, as follows :Assets: Cash in National Bank, £34 0s 5d ; rate collectable, £66 5s Did ; tools and office furniture, £3: total, £103 6s Liabilities : Newton Borough Council, £31 17s 9d ; sundry small accounts, £19 8s; balance, £52 0s shd: total, £10368 "Ad. . .'Public debt of the district, nil; reserves and real property belonging to the Board, none. General account: Receipts : Balance April 1,1890, £21 6s 7d ; general rate, 1889-90, £79 13s lOd; ditto, 1890-91, £254 19s 9id ; Government subsidy 011 general rates, £224 4s lOd , fees, £41 ss; total, £621 10s OJd. Expenditure : Administration, £19 16s Id ; lighting, £12 lis 5d ; do;; registration, £3 2s 9d ; licensing, £5 6s 6d; commission on rates collected, £24 2s 6d ; Road Board election, £2 2s'; construction ot' roads, £223 8s 6d; maintenance of roads, £215 7s 3£d ; Hospital and Charitable Aid account, £81 12s 7d ; balance in bank, £34 Os 5d ; total, £G2l 10s OJd. The chairman stated it to be his opinion that the accounts should be audited privately, in order to be ready to bo placed before the public meeting. Mr. Jenkins moved the adoption of the accounts. He considered that they displayed a most satisfactory state of affairs. The Board were to be congratulated upon the fact that they were quite free from debt. The. motion was carried without dissent. Mr. Mil bank moved, and Mr. Armstrong seconded a resolution to the effect, "That it be an instruction to the incoming Board to call for public tenders for the supply of all road metal, and that tho account be paid monthly." • The resolution was carried unanimously. The Board decided that a rate of ; |d in the pound be authorised to be struck for general purposes.

MOUNT EDEN. The ratepayers of the Mount Eden Road District held their annual meeting yesterday evening at Waite's Hall.. Mount Eden. Mr. H. Hirst presided. There was a fairly good attendance. Mr. J. Webley, clerk to the Board, read the statement of accounts for the year ended March 31st. This showed tho receipts to the general account to be £1502.13s 3d, and the expenditure £1253 las 9d, leaving a credit balance of £218 17s 6d„ The credit balance on the waterworks revenue' account was £226 53 9d, and £354 13s 2d on the interest and sinking fund account. The assets were £1433 5s 9d, and the liabilities £327 lis lOd. Mr. Cooper thought the balance-sheet very satisfactory, oxcept for the item of tolls. The balance-sheet showed that to collect the £176 18s 9d receipts in tolls, they had had to expend £140 12s 103, and part of the tolls, to the amount of £28 8s 9d, had had to be given to the Mount Roskill Board, leaving only a small balance. The Chairman pointed out that if the tollbar were removed, the road would very soon suffer through the heavy traffic. The balance-sheet was received, subject to approval by the Auditor-General. A groat deal of time was spent in a discussion as to whether more money had been spenbattheMountßoskill side of the district than at the Mount Eden side. Mr. Webley read a statement showing that £473 Is 4d had been spent at the Mount Eden side of the district during the past year ; £414 12s 6d in the centre of the district, and £518 3s 7d in the Mount Roskill part of the district, exclusive of £311 contributed by the Mount Roskill Board. On the motion of Mr. Cole, it was resolved, " That before undertaking any work costing over £10, the Board consult the ratepayers." MOUNT ALBERT. The following nominations were received yesterday to lill three vacancies in the Mount Albert Road Board:—Mr. Andrew Clark Caughey, proposed by Messrs. J. W. James and \Y. Spragg ; ■ Mr. Matthew Crawford, proposed by Messrs. A. C. Caughey and Thomas Allen 'James Roberts Walters, proposed by Messrs. J. W. James and W. Spragg. As the number nominated did not exceed the .number of vacancies, Messrs. Caughey, Crawford, and Walters were declared duly elected by the returning officer, Mr. S. Brooking.
