Judgments fob Plaintiffs.—City Council v. Dr. Kenderdine, £1 0s fid, rates. Defendant said that he had paid all his rates except the Library rate, and he declined oa principle to pay that, as the Library waa kept open on (Sunday." His Worship said that was no defence, and judgment must pass for plaintiff, with costs 6s. Edward Hodgson v. R. Jenkinson, £21 15s Sd, costs £2 lis. Nathan and Co. v. G. Moss, £9 12a 7d, costs £1 9s. Cook and Gray v. William Glasgow, £G Is 2d, costs £1 Is. Mrs. Ellen Clyne v. A. Sanford, jun., £7*7s, costs £1 ss. Joseph Adams v. H. Lincoln, £1 10s, costs 7s. —

. Buchanan v. Jervis.—This was an action brought by Mr. Buchanan, solicitor, against John Jervis for £3 3s, a bill of costs for drawing up certain agreements. Mr, Burton appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. G. N. Brassey for the defence. After hearing the evidence plaintiff was nonsuited .with costs, £1 Is, the,, grounds of nonsuit being that there was no proof of a signed bill being delivered, and that instructions had not been proved. Downing v. O'Meagher.—This was an action brought by Edward Downing, ©rated water manufacturer, against Patrick O'Meagher, licensee of the Lake Hotel, Takapuna, for the sum of £9 13s for goods supplied as per bill of particulars. It was arranged, on the application of Mr. Burton, to allow the case to stand over till Friday, in view of the probable settlement between the parties.

POLICE COURT.—Thursday. [Before Messrs. Moody and D. Bobertson, J.P.'s.] Drunkenness.—One first offender was fined 5a and costs or in default 24 hours imprisonment. Helena Wright was fined 10s and costs or in default seven days imprisonment.

Obscene Language.—Helena Wright, aged 17, was further charged with using obscene language in Chapel-street, on April 27. Accused pleaded guilty to the charge, and was sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour.

Refusing Duty. — Chas. Dolph was charged that being an articled seaman on board the British ship Scottish Admiral, he wilfully disobeyed the lawful command of Evan Howard, the chief officer of the ship. Accused pleaded guilty to the, charge. Captain Thomas Walsh deposed that accused was taken on board the ship Scottish Admiral on Wednesday last, and had refused 'to lash a spar when ordered to by the chief officer. The Bench sentenced accused to 14 days' imprisonment, and ordered that he should be taken on board the ship at the expiration of that term.
