■ London, April 2. The Bank of England returns published to-day show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be £13,836,000._ The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 33'40 per cent. Consols, 97. Three months bills are at 2§ per cent. Market weaker.
New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 105£; 3£ ditto, 97£. New Zealand long-berried wheat, 425. The market is firmer for New Zealand wheat on the passage. Sellers are asking 39s 6d, but buyers refuse to give more than 39s ; New Zealand wheat, off coast, 41s. Canterbury mutton, 4id ; Wellington mutton, 4£d ; Canterbury lamb, s|d ; beef, forequarters, 3 7-16 d ; hind quarters, 4gd. ' Hemp is still unchanged. < South Australian wheat, 43s 6a; Victorian wheat, 42s 6d. Sugar, best German beet, 13s 9d; the market is flat. Java, 15s 6d. No. 1 best Scotch pigiron, f.0.b., in Clyde, 42s 6d. Per New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. London, April 3. Tallow is dull of sale. Prime mutton tallow is worth £28 per ton. 'Quotations nominal: Good beef tallow, 25a 9d per cyvb. Frozen Meat.—-Mutton market quiet. Canterbury mutton is worth 4id, and Wellington 4£d per lb. Beef: Market quiet. New Zealand beef, forequarters, is worth 3id, and hindquarters 4j}d per lb. Lamb : Market dull. Prime New Zealand lamb, by the carcase, worth s|d per lb.
