Melbourne, April 1. ; A man named William Colston, a carpenter, has been arrested, having confessed to murdering Davis and his wife at Narbethong on 20th February last. He states that he was driven to commit the deed owing to black mail levied by means of the female victim.
FIRE AT SEA. Perth, April I. The German barque Ludwig, on a voyage from Natal to Adelaide, with a cargo of coal, has been burnt to the water's edge, about 130 miles south of Cape Leuwin. The crew took to the boats, and arrived here safely. .
VICTORIAN LOAN. Melbourne, April 1. v The Agent-General has been instructed to place a three-million loan on the market at an early date. >
SCULLING MATCH. Sydney, April 1. A sculling match has been arranged between Thomas Sullivan, late amateur champion of New Zealand, and Charles Stephenson, champion of New Zealand, for a .stake, of £100 with a side wager of £100. The race will take place on Monday, the 27th instant, over the championship course.
