THE MANIPUR MASSACRE
LATER PARTICULARS. BRITISH OFFICERS PRISONERS. Press Association.— Telegraph,— \ Calcutta, March 31. It was a detachment of the forty-second and forty-fourth Ghoorkas which was destroyed. It is supposed that Colonel Quintou and the European officers are prisoners except one who is known to have been killed, and it is feared Mr. Grimood, British Resident at Manipur, and his wife are also prisoners. Three regiments are marching to their relief. Calcutta, March 31. Captain Cowley and 200 men of the 43rd Bengalese were expected to arrive at Manipur three days after Colonel Quinton, and it is feared they have been massacred. Some anxiety is felt for the safety of eighty Ghoorkas who are advancing on Manipur under the command of Lieutenant Grant. General Grant commands the relief expedition.
