After the battalion parade at Dunedin on February 11, Colonel Wales, who re tires from the command of the district, was presented, on behalf of all volunteers, 'with an illuminated address ; and Lieutenant Colonel Gordon, who has been transferred to Christchurcb, was presented with a purse of sovereigns. The members of the Wellington Citv Council have presented the lateiiayor (Mr C. J. Johnston) with a group of their portraits in a " beautiful ornamented silver shield. On the top of the shield there is the Corporation coat-of-arms, below it beim* the following inscription:—" From the members of the Wellington City Council to C.J. Johnston, Esq., on his retiring from the position of Mayor of Wellington A' Z 17th December, 1890." '' On the 25th February the boys of the Marist Brothers' school, Pitt and Wellino-. ton streets, gave a testimony of the love and respect in which they hold their head teacher, the Rev. Brother Augustine, when they presented him with a neat little writ- " ing desk. The presentation was made on behalf of the other pupils by master John Bowerman. A meeting of subscribers to the testimonial fund to the Rev. W. Tebbs, incumbent of St. Matthew's, took place on the 2nd February at the parsonage. The object was to make a presentation of a purse of sovereigns to Mr. Tebbs, who left on February 3 for England, via Sydney, for the benefit of his health! Mrs. Baker in a few graceful sentences, presented Mr. Tebbs, on behalf of the subscribers, with a purse of sovereigns, and expressed the hope that he would receive the gift in the spirit in which it was given. With the purse the lady also presented Mr. Tebbs with an address. The Rev. Mr. Tebbs suitably replied, returning thanks for the kind ness and sympathy shown by the donors.
